Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing gate operators are built around two main frame styles: slide gates (the 9050, 9100, and 9150 series) and swing gates (the 6000 and 6500 series). The welding that fails on a slide gate is usually the V-track support brackets and the receiver post mount. On a swing gate, it’s the hinge plates at the post and the operator mounting tabs on the gate frame itself.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in El Monte: DoorKing changed the mounting plate bolt pattern between the 9100 and 9150 series. If your opener’s data plate says 9150, the mount is not a straight bolt-on from a 9100 bracket. We measure the bolt spacing before we fabricate anything. Trying to drill or slot a 9100 bracket to fit a 9150 voids whatever life that bracket had left and puts the opener out of alignment.
For most El Monte homeowners, OEM DoorKing steel is the right call when the part is a proprietary bracket or a specific mounting plate. For generic square tube, angle iron, and hinge barrels, quality aftermarket steel is the same 6061 aluminum or ASTM A36 steel DoorKing uses, at about half the price. Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the free end and scrapes the concrete. This is almost always a hinge weld that has stretched or cracked at the post. The gate’s weight hasn’t changed, but the metal’s fatigue resistance has. The longer it scrapes, the more it twists the frame, which spreads the damage.
- The operator mounts sound like they’re working loose every few weeks. If the bolts stay tight but the bracket still flexes, the weld bead underneath is failing. The bolt torque is fine; the parent metal is bending around the old weld. Tightening it again masks the problem, and the next failure usually happens when the gate is half open.
- Rust blooms at the base of a post or on a bottom rail. In El Monte, morning dew plus sprinkler runoff sits on low welds. Galvanized and powder-coated steel both fail at the same spot when water pools there, and the corrosion starts inside the tube. By the time you see orange streaks, the wall thickness is likely half what it was.
- The gate never fully reaches the close or open limit. The operator is still running, but the gate binds partway. This can be a bent frame member or a broken weld that shifted the geometry just enough to throw the limit path off.

DIY or Call Us?

But actually cutting out and re-welding a swing gate hinge while the gate is under tension, or re-welding a slide gate track bracket while the gate weighs eight hundred pounds, is not a weekend job.
