Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The El Monte Owner’s Guide

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

- New rust streaks running down from a weld or bolt hole. Rust at a weld is not cosmetic on a gate. The rust means moisture has gotten into a micro-crack in the weld bead or the surrounding heat-affected zone. - The gate stops halfway and the Ghost Controls alarm beeps three times. Ghost Controls boards trip an obstruction alert when the arm current spikes mid-travel. DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before you call. Look at each weld with a flashlight: a hairline crack in the paint along the weld line is worth noting, and a gap you can slip a fingernail into is a real crack. Wiggle the gate in the closed position and watch which joint moves. Take a photo of the Ghost Controls label on the control box so you can tell us the model. None of that requires tools or puts you at risk.
What we do not recommend is grinding out a cracked weld and re-welding it yourself, or cutting and drilling a new bracket off a YouTube video. The welding side of this involves enough heat to warp a gate if you do it in the wrong order, and the Ghost Controls arm carries enough tension at the end of stroke to make a botched bracket a genuine safety issue. A bad weld on a bracket can fail while the gate is closing, which is not a place you want a 300-pound gate leaf to be uncontrolled.
